  2. Subject: RISC System/6000 Computer, AIX Operating System
  3.     
  4.      The virtual printer files (also called printer colon files) supplied 
  5.      support the PCL5 Language mode of the Lexmark 4047 printer.
  6.  
  7.      The files supplied on this diskette are for use with AIX Version 3.1.5
  8.      nad AIX Versions 3.2.x.
  9.  
  10. INSTALLING PRINTER FILES:
  11.  
  12.      To install the new printer files:
  13.      (The following commands require root or superuser authority)
  14.  
  15.      1)  Insert the printer installation diskette in the RISC System/6000 
  16.          default diskette drive.
  17.  
  18.      2)  Enter the AIX command for your version of the operating system:
  19.  
  20.          For AIX 3.1.5:
  21.          dosread -a /AIX/4047_31.pcl  /usr/lpd/pio/predef/4047.pcl
  22.  
  23.          For AIX 3.2.x:
  24.          dosread -a /AIX/4047_32.pcl  /usr/lpd/pio/predef/4047.pcl
  25.  
  26.      3) Enter the AIX command:
  27.  
  28.          chmod 664 /usr/lpd/pio/predef/4047.pcl
  29.  
  30. CONFIGURING THE PRINTER:
  31.  
  32.      1)  Define the 4047 printer using the System Management Interface Tool
  33.          (SMIT) for printers attached directly to the system or to a Xstation.
  34.  
  35.          a) If the printer is directly attached to the RISC System/6000
  36.             (parallel or serial attachment), define the printer device
  37.             as either "other parallel" or "other serial" printer.
  38.  
  39.             Note: If the printer is attached to an Xstation this step
  40.             is not necessary (skip to step b).

  50.                        Select either "Other Serial Printer" or "Other Parallel 
  51.                    Printer" and complete the configuration menu questions.

  55.          b) Define 4047 a print queue and virtual printer for PCL 5 Language.

  68.                        Select "Lexmark 4047 5E" from the list of 
  69.                        printers displayed.  
  70.                        Answer the header/trailer page questions.

  73.      2)  If you are attaching the printer to the IBM 4033 LAN Connection 
  74.      then use the utility command "mklanprt" to configure the network 
  75.      adapter and define the AIX print queues for the printer.  Refer to the 
  76.      appropriate user's guide for more information.

  78. USING THE PRINTER ON THE RISC SYSTEM/6000 COMPUTER:

  80.     Defining Additional Print Queues
  81.  
  82.     Additional print queues may be defined with the AIX Operating System for 
  83.     custom print requirements.  Each additional print queue may be setup 
  84.     with its own unique printer defaults.  For example, a PCL queue
  85.     can be defined with to print in landscape mode.  See your system 
  86.     documentation for more information.

  91.     Page rotation selection is supported by using the -z flag of the 
  92.     qprt command.

  99.     Paper source selection is supported by using the -u flag of the 
  100.     qprt command.

  106.     Manual paper feed is selected by using the -o flag.  The -u flag 
  107.     determines if the manual feed is paper or envelope.

  114.     Paper size selection is supported for the PCL5 Language by using the -Q
  115.     flag of the qprt command.  The -u flag determines if the manual feed 
  116.     is paper or envelope.

  128.     Note: The printer file (4047.pcl) for PCL5 defaults the paper size to 
  129.     letter.  To change the default size, change the values for the S0-S2
  130.     attributes in the file.  For example, to make A4 the default size for
  131.     all paper sources, change S0, S1, and S2 to 4. This changes The top
  132.     tray, bottom tray, and manual feed tray sizes respectively.  S3 and S4
  133.     control the default envelope size.

  135.     Pitch
  136.  
  137.     Pitch selection is supported for the PCL5 Language by using the -p 
  138.     flag of the qprt command.  The condensed print flag, -K, is not 
  139.     supported.

  145.     Note: To format ASCII files for other pitch values or font styles use 
  146.     the AIX enscript utility.
